Yojimbo

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Yojimbo is without a doubt one of my favourite films (and I really
need to get watching a lot more of the Akira Kurosawa / Toshiro Mifune
collaborations). It was unofficially remade as the western,
A Fistful of Dollars, and it’s often said that Clint Eastwood was
heavily influenced by Mifune’s acting.

Life-size Gundam

This blog is turning into a bit of a Japan-fest, but there is just
so much awesome stuff over there. Gundam is an anime that first
started in 1979 and has continued since in various different forms.
The giant Gundam moves, makes noises and blows out steam!

Captain Tsubasa

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Time to get back into Captain Tsubasa. I started watching it
a few months ago, but haven’t sat down in front of any episodes
for a wee while now. It’s the story of Tsubasa, who you watch
progress from a schoolboy into a Japanese international. I love
the way a split second in a Tsubasa football match is drawn out
into what seems like an eternity!

From scouting around YouTube it seems like he plays for an
“FC Barcelona-like” team at some point in his career, looking
forward to that. Although it would be better if he turned
out for the mighty Dundee United.
